Grand Tour of Spain--
 a Spanish Fiesta


Join us in June 2005 for our tour of Spain--Madrid, Seville, Granada, Valencia, Cordoba and more, with an excursion to Tetouan, Morocco and a Flamenco evening in Barcelona.

 Itinerary

Day 1:  Overnight Flight to Spain

Day 2-3:  Madrid
Enjoy walking tour of Madrid beginning at the Puerto del Sol, where Madrilenos once battled Napoleon.  Walk through one of the nine arched gateways leading to the Plaza Mayor.  Visit the world-renowned Prado. On day 3,  take a guided panoramic sightseeing tour of Madrid. Continue with a visit to the Royal Palace built by Bourbon King Philip V - once the most powerful court in the world. It was here that Spain officially joined the European Community in 1986. The palace boasts more than 2,000 extravagant rooms, including one encased in porcelain. See the golden Throne Room and the incredible collection of frescoes and chandeliers.

Day 4-5:  Seville
Visit Puerto Lapice, a stagecoach stop in the days of Cervantes' Don Quixote.  Continue through Cordoba's Mezquita, the largest mosque west of Mecca.  Visit the Moorish Alcazar and one of the world's largest cathedrals on your guided tour of Seville on Day 5.  Enjoy a stroll through historic Seville before transferring to the Costa del Sol for the evening.

Day 6:  Costa del Sol-Morocco
Opt to ferry across the Straits of Gibraltar and experience the mystique of Morocco, or relax on the beaches of the Costa del Sol.

Day 7-8 : Granada-Valencia
Continue on to Granada, at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.  Recall they mystical world of Washington Irving's Arabian Nights as you tour Granada's Moorish Alhambra.  On Day 8, transfer to Valencia, Spain's  third largest city, where you'll spend the night.

Day 9-10:  Barcelona
Enjoy a tour of Valencia before transferring to Barcelona.  Enjoy a Flamenco evening.  On Day 10, join your local guide for a look at the highlights of this colorful city. Visit Parque Guell, a World Heritage Site, and see the astonishing church of the Holy Family--both designed by Art Nouveau architect Antoni Gaudi. Also take a stroll down the city's charming boulevard, Las Ramblas, on your EF walking tour.

Day 11-12: Costa Brava Extension
Enjoy an extended stay on Spain's scenic Costa Brava.

Day 13:  Return to the US

Total Cost of Trip:  $2074 for students under 25 yrs.
($1835 Program Fee + $144 Departure Fee + $95.00 Registration Fee)

$2454 for adults over 25 yrs.
(Same as above, plus a $380 Adult Fee for double room)

Study Abroad Requirements:

All tour members will designate some aspect of Spanish culture or behavior they want to study.  
Study tour members are studying on-line and visiting links about the places to be visited.  
We will also have one or several half-day meetings in  late April to early May.
 During the study tour we will keep a journal and take photos for a photographic journal on
our studies and experiences. At dinner, we will spend some time discussing the events of the day.

 Students who are studying particular aspects of Spanish
culture and behavior will be responsible for developing a report on their specific content area(s).
 We will then compile our tour findings with pictures, essays and descriptions for publication
on the course Web site for public education and viewing.  Tour participants will receive an
EF backpack and  journal for the trip. Students will be asked to write up their summary descriptions on the trip back home for submission before departing the airplane in the U.S.
