Montmartre

Montmartre is filled with artists and lots of warm, lively and lovely people. You can really get a feel for the French culture here and how they so much enjoy their life. Beginning in the 19th century, Montmarte was colonized by artists; and artists such as Louise Michel, Corot, Renoir, Degas, Cezanne, and Picasso have lived there.  The Bateau-Lavoir was their headquarters, a landmark building that was considered to be a ramshackle building reminiscent of a ships's gangways.

 The Place du Tertre is a focal point in Montmartre which is described as a preserve of restaurants and artists. In the square, you will see many artists at work constructing art as well as doing portraits for the tourists. They also display and sell their works.   Many artists will greet you and solicit your participation and contributions in their developing portraiture renditions of you.  I had  2 such portraits commissioned; and the artists are quite good with their own styles of art.  

Other focal points of Montmartre include: the Moulin Rouge, The Sacre Coeur Cathedral, the Salvador Dali Museum, and the Theatre Elysees-Montmarte.  Below, you will find some noteworthy photographs of Montmartre.
