Policies on Aging

Prevention of Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (Title VII-A3)
In 1987 AoA established the Prevention of Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation program. Through the program, AoA provides federal leadership in strengthening elder justice strategic planning and direction for programs, activities, and research related to elder abuse awareness and prevention. This program trains law enforcement officers, health care providers, and other professionals on how to recognize and respond to elder abuse; supports outreach and education campaigns to increase public awareness of elder abuse and how to prevent it; and supports the efforts of state and local elder abuse prevention coalitions and multidisciplinary teams.

A membership association. The site has news on aging and featured forums on aging related topics.

American Psychological Association, Division 20, Adult Development and Aging
Dedicated to studying the psychology of adult development and aging, this division provides links to research guides, laaboratoreis, instructional resources and other related areas.

National Institute on Aging (NIA)
A site at the National Institutes of Health. Includes mission statement and extramural programs on the biology of aging, the behavioral and social research program, neuroscience and neuropsychology of aging, geriatrics program and related sites.

Brookdale Center on Aging
The largest multidisciplinary gerontology center in the northeast.

Harvard Medical School, Positive Aging Resource Center
The teaching, research and clinical unit in the Harvard Medical School. The Center is designed to promote positive aging by providing information and resources to older adults and caregivers, health and social service professionals, and policy makers.

National Policy and Resource Center on Women and Aging
Information on women and aging. Includes an online newsletter.

The Huffington Center on Aging - Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas
This Center is one of the most advanced aging research programs in the country. It includes programs on such topics as: cell and molecular biology of aging, cardiovascular diseases, ethics and outcomes research. The site also includes Aging 101 - a primer, Arts in Aging, and information and demographics on Centenarians.

Aging With Dignity
Founded in 1996. This is an advocacy organization dedicated to the needs of elders and their caregivers, with particular emphasis on improving care for those at the end of life.

The National Alzheimer’s Project: From Act to Action
The National Alzheimer’s Project: From Act to Action is an effort to support a committed and effective implementation of the National Alzheimer’s Project Act (NAPA). Information collected from individuals living with the disease, caregivers, providers and other stakeholders will be shared with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for creating a national strategy to address the crisis and coordinate across government agencies. This project is facilitated and supported by the Alzheimer’s Association.

National Centenarian Awareness Project
A site developed by Lynn Peters Adler, J.D.--a lawyer--who has devoted her career to the concerns of centenarians, longevity, and positive aging. The site includes "Centenarians This Millennium," where she interviews 12 Centenarians. These are very strong, healthy and activie people, ranging in age from 100 years and over. The site also has much information on centenarians, boo excerpts, stories, tributes, etc. Includes a Centenarian Registry where you can include the names of people you know 99 years of age or older. A great site!
